Dollar Per Child Campaign
The Dollar Per Child Campaign funds the legislative activities of both the Pennsylvania Head Start Association and the National Head Start Association. The reauthorization of Head Start, continuing struggles to maintain federal funding, and the work involved with Head Start state supplemental funding make the campaign vital to PHSA's successes. PHSA's legislative activities must be supported entirely by non-federal funds. Federal guidelines prohibit the use of individual or agency funds for legislative activities. Because of these restrictions we must rely directly on Dollar Per Child funds from the Head Start community to continue our legislative initiatives. The goal of the campaign is to raise at least $1 for every child enrolled in Head Start. Programs have raised money through walk-a-thons, bowling contests, special events, sales of promotional items (buttons, stickers and pins, for example), and many other creative methods. Programs send their funds directly to the PHSA office. PHSA and NHSA divide campaign contributions equally so that each Association can finance their legislative activities appropriately.
