Additional Program Details:
Working in partnership to enrich the lives of young children and their families. Armstrong County Head Start has been an integral part of the Community Action Agency since 1966. What began as a summer-only program has evolved into a program that serves 222 children in six center sites and two child care centers. The part-day/part year classrooms are located in Apollo, Ford City, Manorville, Kittanning, Rural Valley, and Worthington and serve 207 children. This includes one home base group. The child care centers with whom we partner are both in Ford City the Kids Depot and Magical Wonders and serve a total of 15 children.
We strive to provide every family with a program enabling them to meet their individual needs. Over the years, Armstrong County Head Start has developed relationships and collaborations with a number of other social services agencies, offices, and school districts throughout the County. The ARIN Intermediate Unit provides speech, physical, and occupational therapy for children in need of those services. Several local optometrists and dentists give free vision and dental examinations. The Armstrong School District works with our staff and parents to provide training and information to ease the childrens transition from Head Start to kindergarten.
Above all, we recognize that the family is the most important influence in a child's development. We believe parents have always been and continue to be the greatest asset the program has. Therefore, we honor the essential part parents play as the primary teachers of their children.
