Workshop Description
Join us as we share the story of Pennsylvania Treasury’s child savings account program, Keystone Scholars, a truly collective impact effort demonstrating the power of early childhood savings to future success. The program is available to every child born or adopted by a PA resident beginning January 1, 2019. Learn how the Treasury Department and Head Start staff have partnered to educate families on Keystone Scholars, the power of a child savings account, and how saving a little can change parental expectations leading to more successful outcomes for our community’s most vulnerable students - children living in poverty. Recently announced is the Bright Future Booster for the Keystone Scholars Program. An additional automatic deposit will benefit all Pennsylvania babies born to mothers enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) from January 2021 through June of 2021. This $50 for WIC families is in addition to the $100 Keystone Scholars starter deposit available to every baby born to or adopted by a Pennsylvania family to jumpstart savings for postsecondary career or college education. We will share a recent study by the University of PA on the Keystone Scholars program, which offers insights into these programs. The importance of future educational success begins in the early learning years and it is well known by the Head Start family, making Head Start naturally poised to serve as a partner and community advocate for the Keystone Scholar program. Take back ways to get the program rolling in your agency and hear directly from Head Start Directors who have embraced the program in their local community.
