Presenter: Dr. Michelle Szpara

Title: Professor, Educational Leadership

Organization: Cabrini University

Workshop Description
The workshop on racial identity development for children, families, educators, and administrators will begin with definition-building through a walk-around activity. Handouts with formal definitions and resources will be provided for take-home use. Participants will examine their own experiences and areas of privilege through self-reflection and voluntary sharing in whole-group discussions. The value of supporting racial identity development in young children will be discussed from an inclusive, social justice perspective. Intersections of gender, social class, immigrant status, language knowledge, ability/differing ability, and other forms of diversity will be examined in small-group and whole-group discussions.
